Beginning a New Adventure

Last September, I decided to start out on a new adventure - become a small business owner.  For the past few months, I've been buying inventory, getting the proper licenses, tax documents,  setting up the website, and all the other fun things that come with starting a new business.  Right after the holidays, everything was finally set up and my new adventure has now opened for business! Olivia Jane Accessories, a small online accessories store.

With fashion trends coming and going each year, no one wants to spend an arm and a leg on a necklace, so our prices are really affordable.  Nothing is over $25 and shipping is a flat rate of $5. Payments are accepted through PayPal. Currently the store carries necklaces, earrings, bracelets, and very light weight scarves, but I'm hoping to expand to more if business is good!

If you'd like to check us out, here are a few ways below:

2013 Goals

I have a few things I want to accomplish around the house this year.  I figured writing them out *might* help me keep them.  We'll see!

1. This one is actually for my husband - build a farmhouse table.  I asked him to build one towards the end of 2011, but he's a little slow on projects I ask for.  After building our fence for the dog in record time (1 week, while working every day, impressive, huh?) he's now looking into plans to build our table.  My fingers and toes are crossed this happens this year.

2. Put in new floors downstairs.  Our carpet in the dining room is official ruined between the paint stain and it becoming the dog's favorite place to go potty. I'm not sad about this, I've never been a fan of carpet, especially in a dining room. Also, the cheap stuff that was put down in the kitchen is starting to peel up, so we're planning to replace everything downstairs.  More than likely, we'll go with some kind of laminate flooring since it's cheaper and this isn't our forever home.  Also, have you ever had real hardwoods? They are beautiful but definitely require maintenance that we do not have time to give. Based on our current budget, this project will probably start late summer/fall and maybe be finished by the end of the year.  If we just get one room complete, I'd be happy!

3. Paint the master bathroom.  I bought paint in November during Sherwin-Williams' last Super Sale of the year, but haven't had a chance to paint it yet. We'll also need new mats in there as well, I've been shopping around to find something, but just haven't settled on anything I like yet.  I'm hoping once paint is on the wall, it will help me be more decisive. I'm also itching to get rid of our ugly towel rack and add something like this in the bathroom.

4. Paint the downstairs half bathroom.  This bathroom is a giant waste of space in my opinion.  I'll take a picture of it and post it on the blog when I get to fixing it up so you can see what a giant waste of space it is.  I'm considering doing a board and batten look, like this, just to help take up some of the wasteful wall space. This project, depending on how much supplies cost could get finished up earlier in the year, but I'm thinking it's more of a summer project.

5. Make a fake roman shade for the lonely kitchen window.  Now that I am feeling some what more pro at sewing, I'd like to make a faux roman shade for the window in our kitchen and possibly something for the door that goes into the backyard as well.  I just need to find the perfect fabric for it.

6. Make curtains for the guest bedrooms and office.  Jon has a hatred that runs deep for curtains.  He things they are old fashion and ugly, even the trendier prints.  He once told me if I hung curtains up, he'd personally rip them all down, that's how much he hates them. I have no idea why he hates them so much, maybe he was attacked by a curtain as a child? Or maybe he's only witnessed dusty, old, lacy curtains his whole life? Who knows? I figured I'd start in the guest bedrooms (where he never goes) and see if that might make him have some new, positive thoughts about curtains. I need to find a few tutorials online for this, but I hope it could be completed by the summer.

And those are my house goals for the year - 5 for me and 1 for Jon.  Doesn't seem too bad, right? I'm sure more projects will come up throughout the year, but these are the ones I really want to stick with!

Anyone else have any house goals? They seem more fun to make than personal resolutions for the year!

2012 in Review

Well, we're ending 2012 in our house with some kind of virus that won't seem to go away.  Not exactly how we planned to end the year, but it could always be worse!

2012 was a wonderful year, mixed with lots of changes and a few sad moments. So, here's a little recap of our year:

My wonderful grandmother passed away in March and she is very much missed every day, but more so around the holidays.

I got married! This is without a doubt my favorite thing from 2012. We've been married 7 months now and it's been the best 7 months ever, which I realize is super cliche and cheesy, but it's true. (It's ok to gag at my mushiness, I do it all the time)

Honeymooning in St. Thomas.  Need I say more other than when can we go back?

And my second favorite part of 2012? Adding this cute little puppy to our family:

Here's to hoping 2013 is just as great!

Meet Bear

Friends, meet Bear.

We always planned to hold off on getting a dog until we lived in a different neighborhood and had a bigger, fenced in yard.  But, we met this cute guy and fell in love.  So we brought him home and now we're waiting on HOA approval to build a fence and changing our schedules all around to let this little one out often enough to prevent accidents inside.

He's adorable and soft and cuddly. He follows us around like we are the coolest things in the world.

Jon found a new BFF and I have a new cuddle partner. We're pretty much wrapped around his (giant) puppy paws, but hopefully he hasn't figured that out yet!
